The International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) voted the Algarve, Portugal, for the second time, the best golf destination of 2006, in front of other regions such as Florida, Dubai or Costa del Sol (Spain).
The distinction “Established Golf Destination of the Year 2006” was announced during the IAGTO Award Gala Dinner at Las Palmas (Spain), with the participation of 240 Golf Tour Operators from 38 different countries.
The award was decided based on criteria such as the satisfaction of users, quality of the courses and accommodation, professional assistance and support from local industries.
Golf yields about 350 million Euros every year to the Algarve and is now going to be promoted through a special campaign sponsored by RTA in international Channels such as CNN and Eurosport and in specific Portuguese sites.

“Golf Digest Magazine” ranked the San Lorenzo Course, Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura Old Course the 38th and 84th out of the best 100 Golf Courses of the world.
In November 2005, the Algarve also staged the World Golf Cup, for the first time, in Vilamoura, designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer.
The Algarve has lots to offer the Investor, Golfer, Permanent Resident and Holidaymaker.
