Communications and some services in Bansko resort failed because of over-construction, Dnevnik Daily reported.

Electricity cut-offs happened almost every day in Bansko. Telecommunications and internet connection was cut off at several places in the resort.

Tourism representatives said that construction that continued in the suburbs of the resort caused infrastructure problems.

Bansko hotel owners said that digging at construction sites often cut off telecommunications cables. According to Bansko Municipality the local electricity distribution company was testing its installations thus causing the cut-offs.

Local hotel owners said that they were afraid that infrastructure failures would worsen the quality of their services and would drive away tourists.

Olive Tree’s Richard Brady said.  “Whilst restrictions have been placed on the number of rooms to be constructed in total, there are no restrictions on the timing of each development; causing these type of problems during the heaviest construction periods.”

Bansko mayor Alexander Kravarov said that he lacked information on the electricity cut-offs.

It is important to understand that these types of issues are almost inevitable during the construction and development phase of an entire resort. Those wishing to buy apartments in the Bansko area need to consider the effects or possible effects of this for rental potential and holiday use over the coming months.
